Val d’Isère airport transfer with a private driver

Both directions: airport → resort and resort → airportChambéry 2h, Geneva and Lyon 2h45, Bourg-Saint-Maurice 40 minSnow-equipped vehicle, chains on board

With France Chauffeur, the transfer is booked in both directions. Going up, a single vehicle takes you from the airport — or from Bourg-Saint-Maurice station — to your address in Val d’Isère, La Daille, Le Fornet or Tignes. Coming down, your driver collects you outside your accommodation, with the margin the valley road demands. A driver who knows the upper Tarentaise, a vehicle equipped for winter, and a price fixed before departure.

Chambéry, Lyon, Geneva, Grenoble: where to arrive

Val d’Isère is one of the highest resorts in the Tarentaise, and no airport is genuinely close to it.

  • Chambéry-Savoie (CMF) — 140 km, about 2h. The shortest drive, but mostly seasonal flights.
  • Geneva (GVA) — 180 km, about 2h45. The entry point for British and northern European visitors.
  • Lyon-Saint-Exupéry (LYS) — 220 km, about 2h45. The widest choice of flights and connections.
  • Grenoble (GNB) — 185 km, about 2h30. Mainly seasonal.
  • Bourg-Saint-Maurice station — about 40 minutes of climb. Terminus of the TGV and the direct Eurostar in winter.

In every case the journey is made in one go, with no shared shuttle to wait for and no connection to manage with skis in hand.

The last 30 kilometres, from 800 to 1,850 metres

As far as Bourg-Saint-Maurice the journey is an unremarkable valley road. Then the climb changes everything.

Thirty kilometres to rise from 800 m to 1,850 m, on a road that is narrow in places, exposed to ice early in the morning and late in the day, and liable to closure by prefectural order when avalanche risk is high.

That is exactly what separates a driver who knows the upper Tarentaise from one discovering it. We follow the traffic orders, we know where to fit chains, and if the road closes we tell you and reorganise the pickup — rather than leaving you waiting at the bottom.

Val d’Isère, La Daille, Le Fornet, Tignes: name the area

« Val d’Isère » covers several areas spread over a number of kilometres, each with its own approach.

  • La Daille — the gateway to the resort, at the foot of the funicular, the first served on the way up.
  • The centre and Le Joseray — the heart of the resort, with restricted traffic in high season.
  • Le Fornet — the highest and most isolated, several kilometres beyond the centre.
  • Tignes — Le Lac, Val Claret and Les Brévières, on the same valley road.

Give us the exact address rather than the resort name. We plan the route, and if the final approach is not passable after snowfall we agree a drop-off point before the day of the transfer.

How is the price of a Val d’Isère transfer set?

Only three things matter:

  • The starting point — the gap between Bourg-Saint-Maurice station (40 min) and Lyon-Saint-Exupéry (2h45) is considerable.
  • The vehicle — saloon, van for groups and equipment, or a higher class.
  • The season — peak-season changeovers place different demands on our drivers.

The fare is quoted before you book, and it is firm. The same principle as our Paris airport transfers: the price quoted is the price paid.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about transfers to Val d’Isère

Airports, the climb from Bourg-Saint-Maurice, winter conditions: what our customers ask before booking.

Chambéry-Savoie (CMF) is the closest at around 140 km, roughly 2 hours. Then come Lyon-Saint-Exupéry (220 km, 2h45), Geneva (180 km, 2h45) and Grenoble (185 km, 2h30). Chambéry is the shortest drive but its flights are seasonal: Lyon and Geneva remain the most realistic entry points.

About 40 minutes for roughly 30 km, rising from 800 m to 1,850 m. It is the final section of the journey and the most demanding: a mountain road, narrow in places, prone to ice early in the morning and late in the day.

Yes, and it is one of our most requested runs. Bourg-Saint-Maurice is the terminus of the TGV and the direct Eurostar in winter. The station to Val d’Isère transfer takes around 40 minutes, and your driver meets you as the train arrives, with a name sign.

Yes. La Daille, Le Fornet, Le Joseray and the whole commune of Val d’Isère are covered, as is Tignes (Le Lac, Val Claret, Les Brévières) on the same valley road. Please name the area: there are several kilometres and different approaches between La Daille and Le Fornet.

Yes. The French Loi Montagne II requires winter equipment from 1 November to 31 March in designated communes, which includes the whole of the upper Tarentaise. Our vehicles run winter tyres through the season, with chains on board. At 1,850 m that is a condition of access, not paperwork.

The access road to Val d’Isère can be closed temporarily by prefectural order when avalanche risk is high. No operator can drive around that. We follow the orders, tell you as soon as a closure is announced, and agree together on a later pickup or a wait in the valley.

Yes, if you tell us when booking. A ski bag takes the place of two suitcases: for a group with equipment and a week of luggage, the Mercedes V-Class van (up to 7 passengers, 6 large cases) is the right vehicle.

Your flight number lets us track the actual landing and adjust the pickup, at no extra cost. 60 minutes of waiting time are included, counted from the adjusted pickup time.

It depends on the starting point, the vehicle and the season, and it is quoted before you book. The price is firm: neither Saturday traffic, nor a delayed flight, nor road conditions will change it.
